2008 Palmer Davies Leadership Award

On Thursday, October 23rd at their Annual Meeting, UCFS honored Deborah Monahan, Executive Director of TVCCA as the 3rd Annual Palmer Davies award recipient.

The Palmer Davies Leadership Award was created in 2006 to recognize an outstanding leader in the community who has improved the health and well-being of the community or region through advocacy, leadership, and by fostering a community spirit that reflects the mission and values of UCFS. It is named for Mrs. William S. (Fannie) Palmer and Mrs. John (Emily) Davies, founders of the United Workers of Norwich, now known as United Community & Family Services.

This year’s recipient is Deb Monahan, Executive Director of TVCCA. Deb has been serving her community for more than 35 years. She earned a B.S. in Child Development and Family Relations from the University of Connecticut in 1973. Since then, she has devoted herself to the betterment of others. She began her career as a caseworker with TVCCA’s child day care program and then worked as a state and federal grant processor for the agency. In 1976, Deb became the first program director for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, and later, she joined the TVCCA administrative team as the Executive Assistant/Deputy Director. In 1982, she was promoted to Associate Executive Director. Since 1998, Deb has served as the Executive Director of TVCCA where she is responsible for the overall administration of all the agency’s programs and operations and also directs the development of community resources. We proudly honor Deb Monahan with the 3rd Annual Palmer Davies Leadership Award. She is indeed an exceptional leader and advocate, and is admired and highly respected by her colleagues.
