Service Description

The Center for Work and Family was established over 20 years ago so that we could directly respond quickly and effectively to the needs of area employers and their employees. We are committed to optimizing employee’s mental health and strengthening the way families and organizations function. The Center for Work and Family provides employee assistance programs to over 40 local companies and is affiliated with over 30 National EAP organizations covering more than 17,000 employees and their family members.

Employee Assistant Program Experience

The Center for Work and Family has provided quality employee assistance programs for over twenty years. The goal of these programs is to offer confidential services to employees and/or family members in order to:

Services are strictly confidential and offered without regard to race, religion, gender, age, and economic status or lifestyle preference.

Services currently provided by the Center include:

Currently, the Center’s four offices are located in Norwich, New London, Colchester and Groton. Both day and evening office hours are available. Often, We also maintain a 24 hour on call system to respond to emergencies.

EAP Services

  1. Clinical Assessment, Evaluation and/or Crisis Intervention
    Confidential problem assessment, evaluation, and crisis intervention are provided by experienced EAP staff. Same day telephone consultation is available and appointments can be set within two working days. In emergency situations, arrangements can be made for the person to be seen immediately, at the work site if necessary. A 24 hour answering service is also available.
  2. Consultation to Supervisors
    Consultation is available to both supervisors and/or union officers regarding specific cases and the process of intervention.
  3. Orientation and training of managers, supervisors and union stewards
    We can either provide training directly or consult with the organization to develop the curriculum. At a minimum, the training includes the organization EAP policy, the role of the supervisor, problem recognition and intervention, and how the EAP relates to existing performance evaluation and disciplinary procedures.
  4. Traumatic Incidents Response Services
    As part of your EAP, assistance in the development of policies and procedures, and training and orientation of appropriate staff, are provided to prepare your organization to respond to traumatic events in the workplace. When trauma intervention/debriefing services are required, a fee is charged (see attached description).
  5. Employee Awareness/Promotional Materials
    Reports to the organization indicating the number of employees served, types of presenting problems and categorization of referrals/outcomes will be made semi-annually. No personally identifiable information will be included in these reports.
  6. Ancillary Services
    Center staff also provides management/supervisory training programs, staff development seminars, wellness programs and family life education workshops on a fee-for-service basis. These programs can be adapted to meet the needs of particular employers and workplaces. See attached description of education and training programs, and Traumatic Incident Response Program

We can also offer, through other divisions of United Community & Family Services, programs such as flu/pneumonia vaccines, or assistance with eldercare issues. More detailed information on ancillary service is available upon request.
